VIDEO CODING WITH DELAYED RECONSTRUCTION

Methods of encoding and decoding media, for example video, using delayed reconstruction are described. The decoding process may include decoding first prediction information that specifies parameters for generating a prediction of a current block, and residual data syntax elements for the current block, and decoding second prediction information that specifies parameters for a prediction of a subsequent block. The decoder reconstructs residuals for the current block based upon the residual data syntax elements and the second prediction information. It then generates the prediction of the current block from the first prediction information and stored reconstructed data, and reconstructs the current block by adding the reconstructed residuals to the prediction of the current block.

1. A method of encoding video data to generate a bitstream of encoded data using an encoder, the method comprising:
retrieving first prediction information that specifies parameters for generating a prediction of a current block; generating second prediction information that specifies parameters for a prediction of a subsequent block; obtaining residuals for the current block using the prediction of the current block; transforming and quantizing the residuals based, at least in part, upon the second prediction information, to create quantized transform domain coefficients for the current block; and entropy encoding the quantized transform domain coefficients to produce a portion of the bitstream of encoded data.
