摘要 A touch-enabled printed article, such as a poster or a magazine, is disclosed. The printed article 1 includes an insert 8 provided with a capacitive touch-sensitive device (11, fig.2). The touch-sensitive device includes a substrate (12, fig.2) with at least two conductive pads 131 & 132 disposed thereon, and a controller 17 with a capacitive sensor input terminal and a ground terminal connected to respective pads 131 & 132. The touch-sensitive device also includes a removable conductive strip 20 placed above the conductive pads 131 & 132 (figs. 1 & 3). The controller is operable in a low power state and a high-power state. In the low-power state, the controller measures the capacitance of the conductive pads at intervals of several seconds. If the measured capacitance is greater than a predetermined threshold, the controller continues in the low-power state. If the capacitance is less than the predetermined threshold, for example because the strip 20 has been removed, the controller switches to the high-power state. The strip may be removed at a sales terminal, thus conserving the battery life of the touch-sensitive printed article.
