402,736. Golf balls. DAVIS, H. K. B., Montclaire Hotel, Lexington Avenue, and MACY, J. N., Ossining, both in New York, U.S.A. March 3, 1932, No. 6481. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 4, 1932]. [Class 132 (ii).] In a method of making a golf ball, fluid is injected into the centre of of the ball to expand the core and increase the tension of the cover. The pressure may be increased by forcing white lead or other fluid into the fluid-filled core 11 by means of a piston 9 and hollow needle 7, the ball being held in a recessed casting 1. A gauge 15 indicates the pressure attained. The increased pressure expands the rubber windings 14 and increases the tension of the outer cover. To avoid injurious effect on the rubber windings whilst moulding the outer cover thereon, and to avoid substantial adhesion between the two, the hemispherical sections of the cover are preheated in order to reduce the time required for the moulding process.
