Operating method and power supply device for a brushless synchronous machine excited by an external source

The method involves feeding electrical power into a stator winding (6) of a separately excited brushless synchronous machine (1) over a stator power supply (3) in normal operation and in an emergency operation of the machine. An excitation supply device (4) is controlled by a control device (13) with respect to supply of an emergency supply device (5) for transition of the emergency operation into the normal operation while supplying the power. The emergency device is switched off from an excitation winding (11), and the excitation device is switched on for winding, by a switching device (10). An independent claim is also included for a power supply device for operating a separately excited brushless synchronous machine.
