The present invention ensures high sheet thickness accuracy even for ultra-thin stainless steel foil having a thickness of 60 μm or less while simultaneously ensuring plastic deformability and elongation at break, that is, providing excellent press workability (deep drawability). The present invention is a stainless steel foil having a sheet thickness of 5-60μm, the stainless steel foil being characterized in that: the recrystallization rate thereof is 90-100%; the nitrogen concentration in the surface layer of the stainless steel foil is at most 1.0mass%; there are at least 3 crystal grains in the sheet thickness direction of the stainless steel foil; the average particle diameter d of the crystal grains is 1-10μm; and if t[μm] serves as the sheet thickness, the area ratio of crystal grains having a particle diameter of at least t/3[μm] is at most 20%.
