The invention relates to an operator control apparatus (5) for a domestic appliance (1), comprising a carrier plate (7) on which an operator control element (6) for setting operating conditions of the domestic appliance (1) is arranged in a rotatable manner, wherein the operator control element (6) has a front cap (10) comprising at least one transparent region, and comprising a light guide (11, 27) which extends into the front cap (10) and with which the light from a light source of the operator control apparatus (5) can be guided to the transparent region, wherein the front cap (10) has a first transparent region (15a, 15b, 15c, 15d, 15e, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e) and a second transparent region (15a, 15b, 15c, 15d, 15e, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e) which is separate from said first transparent region, and the light guide (11, 27) is designed in such a way that the first transparent region (15a, 15b, 15c, 15d, 15e, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e) can be illuminated with a first light intensity of the light which is coupled out of the light guide (11, 27), and the second transparent region (15a, 15b, 15c, 15d, 15e, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, 16e) can be illuminated with a second light intensity, which is different from the first light intensity, of the light which is coupled out of the light guide (11, 27).
