A building system comprising composite laminar elements is proposed, in which the elements have opposed major surfaces between which minor surfaces extend to define an internal space, which may be filled with a reticulated foam material or other suitable filler, according to application. The elements are arrangeable end to end, and adhesive is disposed between the ends to connect the adjacent panels, thereby to form a metal-, cement- and timber-free structure. The elements may be integrally formed of a composite material, or each may have composite end posts, between which is a wall comprising a layer of reticulated polymeric foam and a skin of glass-reinforced resin.
