A clutch and gear synchronizer module (20) includes an actuator (48) disposed radially with respect to the transmission shaft (21) and carried by an actuator carrier (28) connected to the transmission shaft (21) for rotation with the transmission shaft (21). The actuator (48) includes an offset pin (62) coupled to a shift sleeve (35) that is able to move axially with respect to the transmission shaft (21) thereby causing axial and rotational movement of the offset pin (62) and rotation of the actuator (48) about an actuator axis (52). The actuator (48) includes a lobe (51) and a pawl (23). Sequentially, the lobe (51) engages a friction ring (41) thereby causing the friction ring (41) to engage the gear (22) and causing the gear (22) to rotate in synchronization with the transmission shaft (21). As the shift sleeve (35) moves further towards the gear (22), the pawl (23) then engages clutch teeth (24) disposed on an annular surface (76) of the gear (22). |
