Provided are: a wireless communication system which is capable of implementing swift returns to a connected state from an idle state, even in cases when a vast number of user devices (UE) are connected to a wireless network like a cellular internet of things (CIoT), while ensuring flexibility with regard to coping with future wireless network architecture; a gateway device; a mobility management entity; and a communication control method. The communication control method includes: a step in which, when an S/PGW receives, from an MME, a session cancellation request requesting cancellation of a session for a UE, the S/PGW transmits, to the MME, a session cancellation response including the ESM context of the session; a step in which the MME transmits, to the S/PGW, in accordance with the start of processing for returning the UE to a connected state from an idle state, a session generation request including the ESM context; and a step in which the S/PGW resets the session on the basis of the ESM context included in the session generation request received from the MME. |
