PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary tool buried position detecting method in which a buried position of a broken part of a rotary tool can be detected simply and accurately, and to provide a friction stir welding method.SOLUTION: A rotary tool buried position detecting method is used for friction stir welding of forming a joining part along an abutment portion by rotating a rotary tool pressed in the abutment portion between welded materials. The rotary tool buried position detecting method includes: a measurement step of using materials with different contents of ferrite each other in the welded materials and the rotary tool, and scanning a measurement sensor for measuring the ferrite contents along the joining part; and a detection step of detecting a buried position of a broken part of the rotary tool in the joining part on the basis of the ferrite content measured in the measurement step. |
