A mass spectrometer that comprising an ion source 10; a collision cell 50; a mass analyser and a detector 80 wherein the collision cell has an axial electric field that enhances transmission of ions through the collision cell. The mass analyser may comprise a double focusing sector field mass analyser. The detector may be a multicollector array. The collision cell may comprise a multipole ion guide which may comprise slanted rods or segmented rods. The rods may also comprise resistive or low resistance coatings. An electrostatic lens 40 may also be included which may selectively transmit or reflect the ion beam. The collision cell may be filled with a collision gas. |
