[Class 122 (i)] The two parts of a divided sleeve member b fitted within the piston each have a projection b<1>, b<2> coaxially arranged to provide a journal for the connecting rod end or to support a gudgeon pin d. The sleeve may be a force fit in a steel skirt a formed in one or more parts, and may be secured by a T-shaped member k engaging beneath a shoulder f on the sleeve and screwing into a member e<1> of metal resistant to high temperatures. Member e<1> is supported in the aluminium head e, the outer surface of which together with the inner contact surface of the skirt may be coated with copper or silver to improve heat conduction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a piston, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), having a two-part skirt a, b, the latter portion being divided axially and formed with telescopic projections b<2>, b<1> to support the connecting rod. The member k engages a shoulder on the skirt portion a to retain the head e in position. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
