In an engine (10), an intake duct (11) is provided with an intercooler (34) disposed downstream of an intake air compressor (31). An EGR pipe (36) is provided with an EGR valve (37) and an EGR cooler (38). An ECU (50) determines a generation of a condensed water in the EGR cooler (38), the generation of the condensed water in a merging portion where a fresh air and an EGR gas merge with each other, and the generation of the condensed water in the intercooler (34). When it is determined that the condensed water is generated in any of these portions, the ECU (50) performs a corresponding countermeasure for restricting the generation of the condensed water.
