The purpose of the present invention is to provide an exhaust gas purification device which is capable of achieving a balance between peeling resistance and purification performance at a higher level. An exhaust gas purification device for an engine that uses gasoline as the fuel, which is provided with: a stainless steel carrier that is formed of stainless steel; a high-ceria-content layer that contains ceria and at least one noble metal selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd, Ir, Ru and Os; and a low-ceria-content layer that contains ceria and at least one noble metal selected from the group consisting of Rh, Ir, Ru, Pt, Pd, Au, Ag and Os, with the ceria content being lower than the ceria content of the high-ceria-content layer. The high-ceria-content layer is arranged between the low-ceria-content layer and the stainless steel carrier so as to be in contact with the low-ceria-content layer and the stainless steel carrier. |
