METHOD FOR CHECKING THE PLAUSIBILITY OF THE FUNCTION OF A PRESSURE SENSOR

A method according to the invention for checking the plausibility of the function of a pressure sensor in an injection system of an internal combustion engine comprises steps of S1 to S6, wherein a calibrated control profile is determined in step S1 and can be used to assign peak current values (Ipeak,min) needed to open the at least one electrically controllable injection valve to existing internal pressures. In step S2, an existing internal pressure is measured by the pressure sensor in the form of an actual sensor pressure value. Step S3 comprises finding the electrical peak current value (IPeak,k) corresponding to the measured sensor pressure value from the calibrated control profile, with the result that the corresponding electrical peak current value (Ipeak,k) determined in this manner can be applied to the injection valve in step S4. An opening state of the injection valve in response to the applied electrical peak current value (Ipeak,k) is then monitored in step S5 and a functional state of the pressure sensor is assigned on the basis of the opening state of the injection valve in step S6.
