[Class 74 (ii)] A circular knitting-machine, for producing different half-round effects in a knitted tube or article, has means for supplying yarns simultaneously at different feeding points spaced apart in the needle circle at the same feed, while the needles are controlled to cause about half the number in the needle circle, to produce a partial course composed of one yarn or combination of yarns, and to cause the other half of the needles to produce a partial course composed of another yarn, or combination of yarns, at each of a predetermined number of courses. Patterning mechanism may be used to produce fancy effects on one half of the knitted tube, such as the instep portion of a hose or like article, while a solid colour effect is produced on the foot bottom. The machine may be of the superposed rotary needle-cylinder type, such as is described in Specifications 15008 /00, [Class 74], and 24290/12, [Class 74 (ii)], and the invention may be carried out in conjunction with the invention claimed in Specification 404,076. When the patterning is effected by reverse plating, jacks as described in Specification 366,185 are used. In some cases, an additional yarn is supplied in association with severing and trapping means. The guide 8, for supplying the additional yarn nearer the stitch cam at the feed, is moved at predetermined intervals by pattern mechanism controlling a clutch, whereby the severing and trapping means 46 is operated simultaneously with the guide. The guide is pivoted on a spindle 9 and is disposed above the stationary guide 10 for supplying the other yarns. |
