A distributed sensing device (100) is disclosed, for determining a physical quantity, which comprises a measuring unit (102) configured for measuring signals over time and space by distributed sensing, a determining unit (118) configured for determining, based on the measured signals, data being correlated to the physical quantity, and a filtering unit (104) configured for filtering the data to reduce noise and substantially preserve real features based on at least one filter parameter which is determined depending on the data which relate to the physical quantity at a plurality of different times. The filtering unit may omit or reduce filtering around the occurrence of a real feature. A real feature may be identified by averaging a spatial derivative of the data over time and / or by averaging a temporal derivative of the data over space. Alternatively a real feature may be determined using pattern recognition using cross correlation. The filtering unit may determine the degree of filtering based on a difference between the unfiltered spatial data averaged over time and the uniformly filtered spatial data averaged over time. The device may be a distributed temperature sensing, distributed acoustic sensing, distributed vibration sensing, or distributed temperature and strain sensing device. |
