[Class 39 (i)] In lamps containing a filling of a rare gas and a metal whose vapour pressure rises so that during running most of the current is carried by the metal vapour, the pressure of the rare gas is arranged at such a value that the watt consumption when the lamp is first switched on is at least 15 per cent greater than the consumption at full operation. Sodium and neon may be used ; in a lamp of 20 mm. internal diameter and an electrode distance of 200 mm. the neon is at a pressure of 15 mm. of mercury. |
