Provided are a display method of a portable device having a cover including a penetration area and an operation method thereof. The display method of the portable terminal responds to a user input selecting an UI element and controls a display region corresponding to the penetration area while the UI element is being displayed in an exposed display region, with a part of the display region being covered with the cover including the penetration area and the display region outside the cover being exposed.
