A lamp comprising: at least one light source; one or more translucent walls located about said light source; a photovoltaic cell; at least one rechargeable electrical energy storage component; and an orientation sensitive electrical switch assembly coupled to the light source, said rechargeable component and the photovoltaic cell wherein in a non-inverted position the switch assembly discharges the battery to the light source for energizing thereof and in an inverted position the switch assembly recharges the battery from the photovoltaic cell. In preferred embodiment the lamp is provided in combination with a lampshade that is located about the lamp wherein the lampshade comprises one or more walls extending upwardly to a roof with one or more openings formed through the walls as windows and/or a doorway to thereby reveal the lamp within and provide the appearance of a small house at night. |
