The invention relates to a monitoring device to be worn on a person, wherein the monitoring device has at least one data processing unit, at least one transmitter and/or receiver unit, as well as at least one acceleration sensor, and moreover the monitoring device can be connected to at least one sensor for recording measured values, wherein the data processing unit has at least two operating modes, one being a "basic mode" (G) and the other being a "base station mode" (B), wherein: a) in the "basic mode" (G), the measured values of the acceleration sensor (2) and/or of the at least one sensor are monitored, the measured values having being on the person and/or on the equipment of the person, b) in the "base station mode" (B), the measured values can be processed by at least one other but compatible monitoring device in the "basic mode" (G). The invention further relates to a monitoring device with a display, which can be controlled, in particular switched on and off, with a signal of the acceleration sensor.
