摘要 Described herein are methods and apparatus to adjust the convergence point of a stereoscopic image pair captured by an imaging device. In one method, a first image and a second image of a stereoscopic image pair are provided, and then shifting or cropping of the first image is performed to align the first and second image. This shifting or cropping is performed while preserving the second image. The method then includes determining a target horizontal image disparity based on a desired convergence point of the stereoscopic image pair and when the target horizontal disparity is greater than a predetermined maximum, the cropping of an outside dimension of the first image is limited. In some implementations it is limited to the predetermined maximum.

A method of storing a stereoscopic image pair having a convergence point, the convergence point determining a depth of an object in the stereoscopic image pair, comprising: capturing a first image of a stereoscopic image pair with a first imaging sensor of an imaging device; capturing a second image of the stereoscopic image pair with a different second imaging sensor of the imaging device; shifting or cropping the first image to align the first and second images, while preserving the second image; determining a target horizontal image disparity between the first aligned image and the second image that provides the convergence point for the stereoscopic image pair; in response to the target horizontal image disparity being equal to or below a threshold, cropping the first aligned image and second image equally to obtain the convergence point, otherwise, to obtain the convergence point in response to the target horizontal image disparity exceeding the threshold: cropping an outside dimension of the first aligned image by the threshold,cropping an outside dimension of the second image by the target horizontal image disparity and one half the threshold, andcropping an inside dimension of the second image by the target horizontal image disparity minus the threshold; and electronically storing the stereoscopic image pair including the cropped images derived from the adjusted first aligned and second images to a data storage.
