The invention relates to methods and compositions for reducing serum levels of triacylglycerides in human subjects. In particular, the invention relates to the oral administration of an effective amount of a fungal lipase formulation, to a human subject having borderline-high or high serum levels of triacylglycerides, for a time period sufficient to reduce serum triacylglyceride levels.

1. A method of treating a human subject having elevated serum triglycerides comprising administering a composition comprising a fungal lipase derived from Candida rugosa to a human subject in an amount of at least 70,000 FIP units/meal,
wherein the human subject has exhibited a measured serum triacylglyceride level of at least 150 mg/dL, and wherein the serum triacylglyceride level of the human subject are reduced.
