[Class 83 (iii)] A lathe having a headstock arranged in a rigid frame and a tailstock 6 suspended from and displaceable along an upper beam of the rigid frame is characterized in that the support 7 for the tool-slide 10 is centrally arranged and vertically adjustable in the rigid frame in such manner that the feed of the tool S takes place from below towards the lowest point of the work and radially of the latter. The headstock is integral with the bed 1 and a pillar 3 connects the latter with the overarm 5 to form a rigid frame. The saddle 7 carrying the toolslide 10 slides vertically between a guideway on the main upright forming the headstock and the pillar 3. The tool-slide 10 may be traversed mechanically or by fluid-pressure means and may carry a tool-turret arranged on a horizontal axis. The guideway 7a for the tool slide slopes downward towards the rear and a removable bin 14 is provided for the ready removal of cuttings. A template may be provided on the tool-slide to control a valve for supplying pressure liquid to a cylinder and piston provided in place of the screw 8 for feeding the saddle 7 towards the work. |
