[Class 12 (i)] A ball bearing has at least one ball race of sheet-metal and at least one compressible metallic portion provided between two race members, the compressible metallic portion being compressed after the component parts of the bearing have been assembled to obtain the exact running state of the bearing. As shown in Fig. 1, race members 2, 3, and a deformable metallic ring 6 are forced on to a sleeve 1. To take up the play the ends 1<1> of the sleeve 1 are bent up and the ring 6 deformed. In a modification, deformable rings 19, 191, Fig. 2, are inserted between bearing rings 15, 16 and 17, 18 respectively. In Fig. 3, the ends 81 ... 11<1> of rings 8 ... 11 are softened and are deformed when the ends 7<1>, 13<1> of sleeves 7, 13 are flanged over. In a modification, the abutting edges 81 ... 11<1> are chamfered. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a roller bearing construction in which the radial play of the rollers is taken up by pressing the edges 23<1>, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), of a sleeve 23 over flanges 22<1> on the outer race ring 22. Also in a ball bearing the rings 8, 9, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), of the inner race are riveted to a sleeve 7 and the outer rings 10, 11 are clamped by a sleeve 13. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
