An alcohol dehydrogenase comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 36, with the exception of at least one amino acid substitution selected from the group consisting of Gly198Ile, Gly198Val, Ser199Asp, Ser199Glu, Ser199Leu, Ser199Val, Arg200Glu, Pro201 Asp, Pro201Glu, Tyr218Ala, Tyr218Gly, Tyr218Ser, and Tyr218Val, wherein amino acid numbering is relative to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 36, and wherein said alcohol dehydrogenase has alcohol dehydrogenase activity.
