[Class 38 (iv)] Temperature.-Electric steam-cooking apparatus comprises a cooking vessel a suspended over a steam generating chamber e containing electrodes c by means of which electrolyte in the chamber is heated. The chamber e communicates with a steam jacket b surrounding the vessel a and with an elevated expansion chamber d into which electrolyte is forced, more or less baring the electrodes c, as the temperature of the vessel a and its contents rises. A U- or V-shaped tube f partially filled with a heavy liquid, e.g. mercury is connected to the upper end of the chamber d, the heavy liquid being separated from the electrolyte by an air cushion. The end g of the tube f is open to the atmosphere so that regulation of the pressure in the apparatus is obtained.
