[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XIV] Welding.-A seat for aircraft comprises a back 14, Figs. 1 and 2, with forwardly extending segments 16 forming side walls, a bottom 18 shaped to receive a parachute pack and fixed to the back and side walls, and a corrugated reinforcing segment 27 extending across the bottom and fixed to the side walls. The back and sides are formed from a single sheet of material, preferably aluminium alloy, and a wire bead 32, Fig. 6, is rolled into the upper edge of the blank. The bottom is formed of a piece of the same material, dished to the required shape, and a wire bead is rolled into its front edge. A reinforcing bead of the section shown in Fig. 10 may be applied to the edges of the seat and back in place of the wire 32. The back and sides are spot-welded to the seat, and a strip 21, and a reinforcing segment 20, are spot-welded to the sides and seat. Other reinforcing segments 22, 24, Fig. 2, may also be welded on, and a corrugated strip 27 welded to the underside of the seat. Spot-welding of the thin aluminium alloy sheet used is preferably effected by means of electrodes such as those shown in Fig. 9 for the flat parts, and ball-shaped electrodes for the curved parts. |
