Disclosed is a method for installing a multilayer physical barrier in soil (1) containing contaminating waste (2), to interrupt vertical water flows in said soil (1), optimising efficiency and cost. The method comprises: arranging first (4), second (6), third (8), fourth (10) and fifth (12) consecutive layers of aggregate (4, 6, 8, 10, 12) having granulometries that alternate respectively from bottom to top, i.e. gravel, sand, gravel, sand and gravel; and intercalating a layer of separating material (3, 5, 7, 9, 11) immediately before each layer of aggregate (4, 6, 8, 10, 12), to prevent the mixing of materials between the soil (1) and the first layer of aggregate (4) and between the every two consecutive layers of aggregate (4, 6, 8, 10, 12). The second (6) and fourth (10) layers of aggregate are compacted to prevent filtration, preferably according to the maximum Proctor compactation value thereof. |
