The invention relates to a steering column (1) for a motor vehicle, wherein the steering column (1) has at least two steering column components (2, 3), at least one fixation unit (4) and at least one energy absorption device (5). The steering column components (2, 3) are movable relative to one another when the fixation unit (4) is in a released state in order to adjust the position of a steering wheel that can be mounted on the steering column (1) and are held fixed in position relative to one another by the fixation unit (4) when the fixation unit (4) is in a closed state. The energy absorption device (5) has at least one retaining part (7) and at least one energy absorption element (8) acting between the steering column components (2, 3) in order to reduce impact energy impinging on the steering column (1) in the event of a crash. The retaining part (7) of the energy absorption device (5) is held in place by the fixation unit (4) when said unit is in the closed state and is released when said unit is in the released state. The energy absorption device (5) has at least one stop element (9), which delimits a displacement path for the displacement of the steering column components (2, 3) relative to one another when the fixation unit (4) is in the released state, at least in one movement direction. |
