[Class 69 (i)] A vat is constructed of superposed planks or boards a with metal reinforcing bars b having a flat portion between the adjacent edges of the planks and an integral projection or projections extending laterally from the flat portion and providing lateral support for one or both of the adjacent planks, together with securing bolts c extending through the planks and bars. In the construction shown, the bars b are of H- section, the web being interposed between the planks and the flanges forming the lateral supports for them, one flange lying in recesses so as to be flush with the outer face of the planks and the other being received in grooves in their edges. Constructions employing bars of T, L, cruciform, and bulbousedged sections are also shown. In the first case the vertical flanges are recessed into the outer faces of both adjacent planks, and in the second case the vertical flange is recessed into the outer face of one of the adjacent planks. The vertical flanges of the cruciform section, and the bulbous edge of the other section are received in grooves in the edges of the planks. A sheet-lead lining d may be provided.
