485,582. Reinforcedconcrete floors; filler - blocks. SMITH, W. H. Nov. 20, 1936, No. 31837. [Class 20 (iv)] A hollow block for floor and roof constructions has cavities B, C which are open at one end and closed at the other end, and is provided on its top surface with one or more portions M of material capable of having nails or the like driven therein, the block itself being formed mainly of hard concrete or other non-nailable material. The blocks are arranged in pairs with their open sides abutting, and lips D, K provided at the lower edges of the closed sides enable channels to be formed in the floor at two directions at right-angles. Reinforcedconcrete is cast in these channels and extends to the level of the upper edges of the portions M. The portions M may be in the form of projecting strips which stop short of one of the closed sides of the block so as to allow for continuity at the upper portion of the floor of the cast-in-situ concrete. In some cases, the nailable strip may be inset in the hard concrete block. The nailable strip may be formed of a concrete comprising foam slag, breeze, or clinker. Specification 374,476 is referred to.
