An aerodynamic device 4, for a front surface of a trailer 2, comprises a duct 16a, 16b having an inlet 12 and an outlet 18a, 18b. Inlet 12 is vertically oriented and receives air deflected down the front surface of the trailer 2. Duct 16a, 16b is curved along its length to divert the air from vertical towards horizontal. Preferably, a deflecting wedge 14 is provided in a cavity to split the airflow into two ducts 16a, 16b diverging laterally outwardly, so as to deflect air towards the sides of trailer 2; alternatively duct 16a, 16b may pass within the interior of or under the chassis of trailer 2, without air being fed into the wake of the wheels. A base layer 6 may comprise a bulbous protrusion 8 above inlet 12 and a lower diverter having a cover 10 defining inlet 12. Aerodynamic device 4 is particularly suitable for trailers of haulage trucks. |
