[Class 8 (i)] In a vacuum cleaner, having a, handle 46 pivoted about points 44, the outlet 43 of the fan casing 17 is curved about the centre 44, and telescopes into a pipe 49, of the same curvature, and connected to the bag 55, which is carried by rods 56 mounted on the handle. The end of the tube 43 carries a packing 52, and the joint may be further packed by means of a flexible sleeve 58. The suction nozzle discharges into two branches 12, to which are attached elbows 11, the latter being clamped to the sides of the fan casing. The motor 22 drives the fan 18 and also a spindle carrying beaters 28 and brushes 29. A rubber bumper 32 on the casing 31 terminates in a hood 33 for a head-light 34.
