Detergents for use with hard water consist of one or more cleansing agents and a compound of tetra-phosphoric acid (H6P4O13), e.g. sodium tetraphosphate. Cleansing agents specified are alkyl sulphonates, sodium bisulphite, sodium hypochlorite, oxalic acid with or without sodium sulphate, and sodium or potassium soap which may or may not contain free fatty acid, borax, ammonium compounds, orthophosphates, soda ash, and rosin.
