A pipe lining apparatus comprises a pipe liner 2 for insertion into a pipeline 1, a spacer layer 3 surrounding the liner 2 and configured to provide an interstitial space between the outer wall of the liner 2 and the inner wall 1b of the pipeline, and a termination 4 attachable to the liner 2 and configured to seal against the end face(s) of the pipeline; the termination also comprising a port (6, Fig 3a) for providing a fluid pathway to the interstitial space. A vacuum system 7 attachable to the fluid pathway is also taught; the system 7 comprising means to apply a vacuum to the interstitial space and monitoring means for monitoring the condition of the vacuum. The provision of the vacuum between the pipeline 1 and the liner 2 serving two functions. Firstly, it provides a leak detection system. If there is a failure in the structural integrity of either the pipeline 1 or the liner 2 the vacuum will fail, prompting the monitoring system 7 to provide an alarm. Secondly, it significantly reduces the opportunity for corrosive condensate to form on the inner surface 1b of the pipeline and the outer surface of the liner 2. |
