An electronic device having a power supply (11) for supplying power, an electrical storage device (12) for storing power from the power supply, a voltage regulator (13) for converting the output of the electrical storage device into power having a desired voltage and outputting the same, a restarting circuit (14) for intermittently generating a restarting signal, a microcontroller (15) that operates by receiving power supplied from the voltage regulator and shifts to an active state after receiving the restarting signal in a sleep state, and a peripheral device (20) that receives power supplied from the voltage regulator, wherein after carrying out a prescribed process in the active state, the microcontroller (15) sends a signal to the peripheral device for shifting to a low-power-consumption state and subsequently shifts to a sleep period, and during an active period, the microcontroller (15) detects the output voltage of the electrical storage device and on the basis of information in a voltage regulator characteristic table and current consumption estimation table stored beforehand, raises and lowers the current consumption of the peripheral device so as to reduce the overall power, including that of the voltage regulator. |
