Compositions which self-assemble under physiological conditions are formulated for application to wounds. The formulations include peptidomimetics selected from the group consisting of .beta.- peptides, .gamma.- peptides, and .delta.-peptides. The formulation may be applied to repair an injury or during surgery. In some cases, the formulation may be applied in a solid form (e.g. bandage, powder, sponge, etc.) or a liquid form (gel, spray, foam, etc.) to control movement of bodily fluids and or contaminants.
