PURPOSE:To provide a specific pyridone azo pigment which is bright yellow and highly sol. in a solvent, absorbs light of long wavelength, and is useful for a thermal transfer sheet. CONSTITUTION:A pyridone azo pigment is represented by formula I (wherein R is H, alkyl, substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or optionally substd. phenyl; and ring A is a benzene ring optionally having a nonionic group). The pigment is prepd. by diazotizing an aniline compd. of formula II and coupling the resulting diazo compd. with a pyridone compd. of formula III. Having a good solubility in an org. solvent and a good dispersibility in water, the pigment facilitates the preparation of an ink contg. a high concn. of the pigment homoge- neously dissolved or dispersed. The prepd. ink enables the preparation of a thermal transfer sheet coated with the ink uniformly in a high density. |
