501,164. Ink ribbons etc.; ink. SCHAEFER, G. W. Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31633. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group XV] An ink-ribbon for typewriters and addressing or like machines consists of a thin, closelywoven flexible fabric base coated on one face with a medium comprising a pigment, an oil lubricant, and a soap serving as a binder. Preferably, oleic acid and ammonium oleate serve as the lubricant and soap respectively. The oleic acid, which may contain a small amount of essential oil, is added to the pigment in a mixing-machine, and, after thorough mixing, a small amount, sufficient to neutralize only part of the acid, of dilute ammonia is gradually added. A putty-like composition is obtained which is moulded into cakes, allowed to dry, and can then be applied to the irikribbon either by hand or in a machine wherein the ribbon is fed over a table above which are mounted, in spring-pressed supports, a cake of the composition and a brush to facilitate obtaining a uniform coating. |
