A liquid crystal display device 10 is provided with: a liquid crystal panel 11 having a plurality of pixel sections PXR, PXG, PXB; a backlight device 12 configured so that an amount of emitted light involving light of a first color included in light of a plurality of colors selectively becomes greater, when a standard therefor is the respective amounts of emitted light involving the light of the plurality of colors needed to make an illumination light into standard white light; and a control board CTR for controlling such that, during a white display, a gradation value of the red pixel section PXR presenting with red color from among the plurality of pixel sections PXR, PXG, PXB is lower than a gradation value of the pixel sections PXG, PXB presenting with other colors, and during a red display, the gradation value of the pixel sections PXG, PXB presenting with other colors is lower than during the white display and the gradation value of the red pixel section PXR is greater than during the white display. |
