A method for turning off a monitor of a mobile phone and the mobile phone. The method comprises: detecting whether or not a user is walking (S101); if not, maintaining a current state (S102); if yes, detecting whether or not the duration for which the user has been walking exceeds a certain threshold (S103); if not, maintaining the current state (S104); and if yes, turning off the monitor (S105). The described solution effectively controls the user, especially a child or adolescent, from playing with the mobile phone while walking, thus effectively protecting personal safety. |
