This multi-core polarization maintaining fiber 10 is provided with: a plurality of cores 11, a clad 12 which encloses the plurality of cores 11, and a plurality of stress imparting parts 15 which are arranged so that the plurality of cores 11 are interposed therebetween in an area enclosed with the outer circumference of the clad 12, wherein the cross-sectional area of the stress imparting part 15 is larger than that of the core 11, and some of the plurality of stress imparting parts 15 are disposed along one direction and others are disposed along another direction different from the one direction. |
