[Class 95] [Also in Group IV] Zein coatings on paper containers etc., containing a volatile solvent for zein, are made resistant to water and other liquids by contacting them, white in an incompletely dried but non-tacky state, with steam at substantially atmospheric pressure. The solvent used may be methyl, ethyl or. isopropyl alcohol and a plasticizer such as diethylene glycol or dibutyl tartrate may be used. For increased hardness formaldehyde may be incorporated in the solution. |
