1. A computer implemented method comprising:
receiving, from a server and within a web browser, webpage content comprising a link to an electronic document, the electronic document comprising a portable document format (PDF); detecting a selection of the link to the electronic document requesting access to the electronic document; identifying that the electronic document comprises a document having a PDF file format; in response to detecting the selection of the link to the electronic document and identifying that the electronic document has the PDF file format, launching, via a plug-in registered with the web browser, an application associated with the PDF file format within the web browser; rendering, by at least one processor and within the web browser, the electronic document in the PDF file format using the application associated with the PDF file format; and generating, by the at least one processor and using the application associated with the PDF file format, a usage behavior data file comprising usage behavior data with regard to the electronic document in the PDF file format during usage of the electronic document rendered within the web browser.
