[Class 44] [Also in Group XXXI] A motor vehicle bonnet flap or lid 2, hinged at its rear end transversely to the vehicle, is spring biassed so as to be slightly lifted when unfastened and is held in the closed position by a transversely-pivoted spring-controlled catch or catches adapted to be released by operating means controlled from the interior of the vehicle. As shown, the lid is held in the closed position by projections 9 on arms 7, 8 on a transverse shaft 12 under the tension of a spring 10 connecting a third arm 11 on the shaft to the radiator casing 16, an extension of the arm 7 being connected by a Bowden cable or the like 1 to a handle 13 on the dashboard. When the catches are released the lid is slightly lifted by a spring incorporated in the rear transverse hinge. The upper surfaces of the projections 9 are inclined so that the catches yield and snap into engagement when the lid is closed by downward pressure.</p> |
