[Class 144 (i)] A composite strip embodying the rubber tread and side-wall portions of a tyre cover is produced by the aggregation of these portions. each separately formed by extrusion or rolling, as a continuous strip from which the appropriate lengths are cut. As shown, the side-wall portions 3 and the tread-portion 10, with or without an underlying tread-strip 14, are separately guided and caused to adhere by pressurerollers. The strips 3, produced by calendering- rolls 2 and a cutter 4, are delivered on to conveyers 6, 7 and, from a sloping end 19 of the latter, into association with the composite treadstrip 17 which is fed on to a conveyer 18 from the calendering-rolls 14. Adjustable pairs of rolls 31, 32-33, 34 serve to turn the strips 3 which are then spaced by adjustably-inclined rolls 37, 38 for edge-lapping with the tread-strip 17. The consolidation of the strips is effected by a pair of edge-rolls 41 and a profile roller comprising a series of discs 42 on a spindle 43. The treadstrip 10, fed from an extruder 8, is passed under a weighting-gauge 12 which, under a rheostatcontrol, regulates the motor.45 of the extruder 8. The consolidated strip is then led on to a conveyer 22 which traverses a cooling-trough 23 and, after festooning at 26, passes under a cutter 27 by which the appropriate tyre-lengths 28 are severed.
