A sorting device (1) comprises a support member (2) for supporting and transporting an article (5). The support member (2) is drivable in a conveying direction (X). The sorting device (1) also comprises a loading station (6) at which at least an article (5) can be loaded to the support member (2), and an unloading station (8) at which at least an article (5) can be removed from the support member (2). The unloading station (8) is provided with a plurality of receivers (9) for receiving an article (5) that is removed from the support member (2). The receivers (9) are arranged transversely with respect to the conveying direction (X) and disposed such that they are below the support member (2) when the support member (2) is at the unloading station (8). Furthermore, the sorting device (1) comprises a controller (10, 17) for directing an article (5) that is supported and transported by the support member (2) to a selected one of the receivers (9). |
