Producing a security paper, which exhibit a multi-layered security paper-substrate containing a paper layer and a plastic layer, comprises embedding a security element between paper layer and plastic layer. The security element to be embedded exhibits a layer structure with transparent carrier, functional layer, release layer and detachable protective plastic carrier film of the functional layer. The step of embedding security element, comprises separating plastic carrier film from security element, and applying security element on plastic layer of security paper-substrate. Producing a security paper for security documents e.g. banknotes, bonds, and identification cards, which exhibits a multi-layered security paper-substrate containing at least one paper layer (9) and at least one plastic layer, comprises embedding a security element between the paper layer and the plastic layer, where the security element to be embedded exhibits a layer structure with a transparent or translucent carrier, a functional layer, a release layer (2) and a detachable protective plastic carrier film (1) of the functional layer, in a sequence, and the liability of the release layer to the plastic carrier film is less than the functional layer. The step of embedding the security element, includes a first partial step which comprises separating the plastic carrier film from the security element to be embedded, and a second partial step which comprises applying the obtained security element on the plastic layer of the security paper substrate, by means of the release layer, so that the obtained security paper exhibits at least one plastic layer as a protective layer of the functional layer of the embedded security element. Independent claims are also included for: (1) security paper obtainable by the method mentioned above; and (2) security element for security documents e.g. banknotes, bonds, and identification cards, comprising a layer structure with a transparent or translucent carrier, a functional layer, a release layer and a detachable protective plastic carrier film of the functional layer, in a sequence.
