An aerodynamic dome component that 120,200,300,350 is placed in front of a wind turbine hub includes an outer ring 138, a central axle 142 disposed relative to the outer ring, a plurality of radially extending tensioning members 140 and a skin-like covering 136. The outer ring 138, the plurality of radially extending tensioning members 140 and the central axle 142 together form an underlying dome support structure 134. The skin-like covering is configured to envelop at least a portion of the underlying dome support structure 134 to form at least a portion of the aerodynamic dome component and define a front dome portion 128. The skin-like covering enveloping at least a portion of the underlying dome support structure 134 may further define a rear dome portion 130, wherein the rear dome portion 130 is configured downwind from the front dome portion 128. |
